Roots of Herbalism 101

Start your herbal journey with a grounded overview of the Roots of Herbalism and the language of plants. This course introduces participants to the cultural and historical context of herbal medicine across the globe and lays a botanical foundation to understand how plants support healing. Herbalism 101 is a one- to two-hour course, meeting online.

Topics Covered:

  1. Introduction to Herbalism – What is herbalism? The evolution and purposeful use of plants across cultures and time.

  2. Botany Basics – Understand plant anatomy, physiology, and the functions of various plant parts in herbal medicine.

  3. Etnobotany & Human Anatomy – How plants interact with the systems of the body and how peoples across the world have interacted with plants for healing and dietary purposes.

 

Roots of Herbalism 102

Build on the foundation of 101 with practical knowledge about harvesting, ethics, and the global legacy of herbalism. Learn the responsibility that comes with using plants for medicine and how to navigate herbal supplements within the context of modern regulations. Herbalism 102 is a one- to two-hour course, meeting online.

Topics Covered:

  1.  Ethnobotany & Land – Explore the history of ethnobotany, responsible plant collection, and the relationship between herbalism and Indigenous land practices.

  2. Native Lands & Native – An overview of plants across the continents.

  3. Supplements & Regulation – An introduction to the world of herbal supplements, including safety, labeling, and U.S. health regulations.

 

 

Herbalism Plant & Healing Series

This comprehensive, hands-on series dives deep into the practice of herbalism. Each class is designed to strengthen your ability to work with plants safely, respectfully, and effectively. Students will gain confidence in plant identification, herbal preparations, and the creation of personal and family wellness remedies. This course is both practical and soulful—perfect for those who wish to build lasting relationships with the green world. The Plant & Healing Series meets online bi-weekly for 11 months. Each class we will cover one to three new plants as well as the following topics:

Topics Covered:

  1. Plant Identification – Learn to recognize common medicinal herbs and understand their characteristics and native habitats.

  2. Medicinal Uses of Herbs – Discover the healing properties of herbs and how they affect different bodily systems.

  3. Formulations – Craft infusions, decoctions, tinctures, salves, and tea through guided preparation techniques. 

  4. Safe Use & Ethics – Understand use benefits and risks, potential interactions with medications, and ethical considerations in herbalism.

  5. Practical Applications – Hands-on remedy making with a focus on real-life uses for everyday ailments.

  6. Herbal Remedies for Everyday Health – Create and use simple recipes for every day health and herbal first-aid formulas.

  7. Resource Gathering & Continued Learning – Learn how to navigate herbal references, deepen your studies, and walk the path of a lifelong learner in herbal medicine.
